Important matric application dates

Deadlines are easier to manage when you stop treating them as one big blur. Use this page to build a simple tracking system for study and funding applications.

1. Track dates by destination

Different deadlines serve different purposes. A university closing date, a bursary window, and a document submission deadline should not all live as one mixed note.

  • Institution application dates.
  • Residence or accommodation dates where relevant.
  • Bursary application dates.
  • Document follow-up dates.
  • Payment or confirmation dates where required.

2. Prioritise the dates that can close options

Missed deadlines matter most when they remove an entire route. Start by tracking the dates that would close off institutions or funding opportunities completely.

3. Keep one deadline tracker that you actually use

Your tracker should be easy enough to update weekly. For each item, record:

  • Name of institution, college, or funder.
  • What the deadline is for.
  • Opening date and closing date if known.
  • Whether documents are already ready.
  • What the next action is.

4. Pair dates with preparation

A date only helps if the supporting work is happening too. If you track a deadline without preparing your documents or shortlist, the reminder arrives too late to be useful.
